Cuban Cheese Roll Just like Dean & Deluca’s (Copycat Recipe)

Cuban cheese roll is our favorite pastry from Dean & Deluca. It’s what we always order to go with our brewed coffee.

I haven’t had those yummy cuban cheese rolls since the start of Covid 19 pandemic. I miss the buttery pastry filled with sweet cream cheese so I thought maybe I can try try to make it at home.

It’s puff pastry with cream cheese filling, pretty simple. Puff pastries are easily available now unlike before; I just needed to get the right amount of sweetness and figure out what to use as glaze.

I got it on my second attempt. On my first try, I added egg to the filling but the egg yolk gave the filling a slightly yellow hue and it feels “heavy”. I remember the cuban cheese roll from Dean&Deluca is white and lighter.

So then I omitted the egg and used confectioner’s sugar to sweeten it instead of light brown sugar ( I do not have regular white sugar) to make the filling white just like the original — Dean & Deluca’s cuban cheese rolls.

I’m happy with the outcome and so I’m to sharing the recipe, here. Hope you’ll give it a try. It’s actually very easy to make.

If you want something not chocolate for a change on Valentine’s Day, this is a good alternative.
