I refuse to say the word “diet.” Instead, I make some much-needed “nutritional adjustments” every January. And then, BAM – hello, Super Bowl! It seems there is always an excuse to indulge, but with some simple ingredient swaps and portion control, we can stay on track.

These Turkey Burger Sliders are a lighter way to satisfy your burger cravings and are perfect for game day gatherings. Bite-sized and utensil-free, they’re the ultimate finger food for parties and a hit with guests of all ages.

The key to any good ground turkey recipe is properly seasoning the meat and adding flavor in creative ways. This is the same approach I take with my full-size Turkey Burgers and Turkey Chili – recipes my family has loved for years. Same approach, different recipes, amazing results!

Ingredient Notes

  • Turkey burger filling: The slider filling consists of 93% lean ground turkey and diced yellow onion simmered with a little BBQ sauce and Dijon mustard. I use my Kickin’ Cajun Seasoning Mix to add fantastic flavor but you can use a store-bought Cajun or Creole seasoning if you’d like.
  • Slider rolls: My favorite choices for these sliders are brioche-style rolls or Sweet Hawaiian Rolls. They come attached in a package of 12 rolls.
  • Sriracha mayo: A combination of regular or light mayonnaise and Sriracha. You can vary the amount of Sriracha to suit mild or spicy palates. This creamy, flavorful spread is perfect for sandwiches, burgers, or even as a fry dip.
  • Cheese: I used shredded pepper Jack but these sliders would be delicious with any cheese you love.
  • Topping: The sliders are brushed with melted butter and topped with everything bagel seasoning before baking. You can find this seasoning almost everywhere these days. I use Trader Joe’s but I’ve seen McCormick Everything Bagel Seasoning at the grocery store and even Costco has it’s own blend now.

How to Make Turkey Burger Sliders

This is a quick overview of how to make this recipe. You’ll find detailed instructions in the recipe card at the end of this post.

Make the Turkey Burger Filling

A ground turkey burger mixture cooked and crumbled in a skillet.
  1. For the ground turkey burger filling, heat a little olive oil in a large nonstick skillet and add the ground turkey and onion. Cook, breaking up the turkey into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Drain the excess grease from the skillet then add the BBQ sauce and the Cajun seasoning.
  2. Stir the mixture to combine it well, then, let it simmer for a minute or two, stirring occasionally. Set the filling aside while you prepare the other ingredients.

Assemble and Bake the Sliders

  1. Use a serrated knife to separate the rolls and place the bottom halves on a parchment-lined baking sheet lined. Combine the Sriracha mayo in a small bowl and spread it over the rolls.
  2. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the rolls in an even layer, then layer the meat mixture over the cheese.
  3. Top with the remaining cheese.
  4. Cover the sliders with the top half of the rolls, brush them with melted butter, and sprinkle them with everything bagel seasoning. Pop them in a preheated 375 degree F oven and bake until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are golden and toasted, about 10 minutes.

Valerie’s Tips

Big Batch Sliders: This recipe is a good one to double if you’re serving a large group. A large rimmed baking sheet is large enough to hold up to 24 sliders.

Make Ahead Tips: You can prepare the turkey burger mixture up to a day in advance. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge and let it sit out at room temperature for about 30 minutes to take the chill off before you assemble the sliders. If the filling is cold going in to the oven, they’ll require a little more time in the oven to heat through.

Ingredient Swaps: Not a fan of ground turkey? Lean ground beef works well too. You can also swap out the pepper Jack for smoked gouda, havarti, sharp cheddar or any cheese you love.

Instructions

  • In a large nonstick skillet over MEDIUM heat, warm the oil. Add the ground turkey and onion and cook, breaking up the turkey into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Cook until the turkey is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Pour off any excess grease from the skillet and return it to the heat. Add the BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, and Cajun seasoning, and stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to LOW and cook, stirring occasionally, for a minute or two and then remove the pan from the heat and set it aside.

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use a serrated knife to separate the rolls and place the bottom halves of the rolls on the prepared baking sheet.

  • In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and Sriracha. Spread the cut sides of the bottom layer of the rolls with the Sriracha mayo, then sprinkle with half of the cheese in an even layer. Layer the meat mixture over the cheese and top with the remaining cheese. Cover with the top half of the rolls.

  • Brush the tops of the rolls all over with the melted butter and sprinkle evenly with the everything bagel seasoning. Bake until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are golden and toasted, about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let the sliders rest for a couple of minutes, then pull them apart or slice them and serve warm.
